To explore emerging trends, challenges, and innovations shaping the journey ahead, Dr Gurpreet Sandhu, President of the Council for Healthcare & Pharma, was invited to the Amity Global Leadership Studio to share his insights. Dr Gurpreet Sandhu had over three decades of experience in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and healthcare sectors. He served as founder of Reva Pharma and chairman of CareIndia and held senior roles with leading firms like the TATAs and Daiichi-Sankyo. Widely regarded as a visionary leader, he contributed to global healthcare strategy, advised governments, and served on the Scientific Board of the India Pharmacopoeia Commission.
Healthcare was highlighted as a key growth engine essential to GDP, life expectancy, and quality of life.
India’s pharma sector, valued at ~US $38 B, exported ~US $17.3 B, showing strong growth potential.
India continued to lead in generic drug production but lagged in innovation and R&D.
A stronger push for R&D was emphasised through public investment and academia–industry collaboration, akin to the US NIH model.
